KaskadskyjKozak Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 Anyone have this rope? Would you recommend it to others? Quote

JayB Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 Mammut's been worth the extra money I've had to fork over. I haven 't had to replace a rope in a while, but I'd go for the Mammut Infinity if you're looking for a sub-10mm single. I can't honestly say that I've ever felt like it was the rope holding me back, or that an extra 0.7mm in diameter was going to make the difference for me, so I've generally used a 10.2-10.5 rope for cragging. This is for alpine routes where weight matters. I use an Edelweiss Axis 10.3(?) for cragging. It's 71 g/m compared to 55 or 56 for the sub-10mm ropes. I bought it cheap... and saw the Fuse on sale, so I was considering it. I may suck it up and go with Mammut, although I hear good things about BlueWater too. Quote
JayB Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 I've never owned an Edelweiss rope, but they seem to be on par with Mammut, and they've got a 9.2mm single-rope that would probably be a good fit. Quote

Ken_p Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 While not the exact rope, I've got a nomad (9.8mm) and have been quite happy with it for cragging and some alpine/ice use. Quote

My partner brought a revelation up on the Tooth last weekend. Nice rope. I think I'll just look for a deal online and cough up the cash when I see it. Quote
hemp22 Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Personally, I'd be a little wary about Petzl ropes too because of the issues with their Zephyr 10.2mm (see Joseph's post). I think that either the Mammut (Infinity) or Bluewater (dominator) in th same diameter range that you're looking at would be preferable. But, of course, they're both more expensive too. If you're looking to save a few bucks and a even more weight, it looks like you could get a 70M Mammut Serenity (8.9mm) for probably the same or less $$ than the 70M Petzl Fuse. Quote
