Reid Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 A few of my friends and I are wanting to take a short road trip for five days in about a week. We are looking for a climbing destination, but the deal is most of our group consists of less than accomplished climbers (5.6 - 5.8 and pretty new to ice). So some nearby hiking would also be good. Heres our list of ideas and associated concerns/questions. Thanks in advance for any input. -Banff *Easier single pitch routes still in? *Avalanche conditions? -Utah *I've really only heard of Indian Creek. Does quality, easier climbing exist? *I know good hiking exists, but where? *Weather -Yosemite *Any crowds yet? *Weather -Smith / Oregon cascades (fall back plan) Quote
underworld Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 go to redrocks near vegas... some AWESOME moderate climbing there. from single pitch to long multi pitch. Quote
Reid Posted March 23, 2008 Author Posted March 23, 2008 thanks for the idea, that actually looks like a good option given the iffy weather most anywhere else. How are the crowds there this time of year? And even if it is bad, can you find some good out of the way spots? Quote
DRep Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 For sure, the clasics tend to be crowded. It wouldn't be hard to find some sweet out of the way stuff because there is an absolutely rediculous amount of climbing there. The Brock guidebook (which sucks) is the size of the Bible. I would make RR a stop on the trip for sure. Quote
