has anyone attempted to get close to mt adams yet? any idea when the roads normally open? were looking at end of april, mazama glacier, just rather not slog through 5-10 extra miles of snow one way!!!

It'll be later than that. You'll need a snowmobile before late June, I'd expect. Also, the Bird Creek Meadows roads may not be open until even later.

it figures. what is a good close (withing 4 +/- hrs) climb, with glacier travel. looking for something comparable to mazama glacier. we have 3 people with climbing/rescue experience, and will have 1 possibly two noobs with us. would like to go somewhere other than hood, but if we cant find something else, we'll head up there.

little harder to find stuff with all this snow.

Shuksan via sulfide is nice. Steep bit at the top off a flat glacier that you could skip or climb. White Salmon glacier would be nice too, but some steeper sections.

i was looking at shuksan. looks like fun. any idea what the early spring conditions are like? ie; avalanche hazards etc.. the summit pyramid looks like it has a nice avalanche chute, that in dry weather would be the route!

Anyone know conditions of the Midway Loop Road for access to the north side routes? I know the south side is usually snowed in very late into the season (especially this season I suspect), but I've never been on the north side until late season. Thanks for any info you've got.
