rat Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 do any of you have info that you would like to share regarding ice climbing in the fort st. james/mt. pope area? looks like a helluva drive. thanks. Quote
G-spotter Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 There is no ice on Mt Pope according to my local informant. I'll be up there weekend after next for a closer look. Quote
G-spotter Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 I spent a couple hours looking and the only ice I could find around Mt Pope was the WI1 on Stuart Lake. The rock looks pretty good though, if you like limestone. And there is a serious amount of unclimbed rock. There might be waterfall ice in gullies further down the lake past the end of the road. I didn't get a good chance to explore these. Based on what I saw, though, I wouldn't drive the 12 hours from Seattle to the Ft. expecting to find any waterfall ice. Quote
rat Posted March 24, 2008 Author Posted March 24, 2008 i wasn't thinking of going up for ice this late but was curious about the potential. thanks. Quote
G-spotter Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 If you do drive that far, a couple hours more will put you in the Smithers to Terrace corridor where there is a serious amount of ice. Quote
