I am learning to ski and looking to get some gear for cheap as I'm a student and don't have a lot of money to spend. A friend will sell me skis and bindings for $25 but I still have to get boots. Is it a good idea to get cheap used ones or should I try to find really cheap new ones? Any ideas where I could find them? Thanks a lot!

Are you learning to tele or AT? What size is your foot? The more information you provide the more likely you are to get some help.

thanks.

I am learning alpine/downhill?. My foot is mens 10.5. I have a friend who will sell me skis and bindings for $25 so now I'm looking for comfortable boots that work relatively well (performance is not a top priority by any means).

thanks for everyone's advice!

I don't have specific advice for places in Seattle, but good-fitting boots are so essential to fun skiing. All your budget should be focused on boots that fit for you. Don't compromise, if you can afford it. They can last a long time if you take care of them.

Listen to the Commander. I would add that if there is any way possible, buy your boots from a brick and mortar store that is reputable and has a knowledgeable person for fitting your boots to your foot.
