i_like_sun Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I grew up doing gymnastics as a kid and teenager, and just recently started doing some coaching. Its been nearly 8 years since I did any kind of tumbling routine, rings, or parallel bars, but this past week I was reminded of how AWSOME this sport is! It builds core strength and explosiveness like you would not believe. Plus, just look at the kind of shape Olympic gymnasts are in, especially the guys - they are RIPPED. I know its not carrying a heavy pack or working on the finger board, but seriously? I think gymnastics builds an extremely functional type of fitness. You can never go wrong with abs of steel! Anyone else on here think so? Quote

lizard_brain Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 You can never go wrong with abs of steel! Anyone else on here think so? No, I think abs of steel are a waste of time. In fact, I'm thinking of trading in my washboard for something useful, like a huge blob of fat that I can use for training weight - something practical. Maybe use it to take a bullet at the downtown ATM, you know, self-defense. Quote
i_like_sun Posted November 17, 2007 Author Posted November 17, 2007 Anyone interested in a joining Bellingham adult gymnastics class? I'm trying to get some people going with it so we can get adult training sessions going. Quote

But seriously, been working more on them, and discovered that just plain crunches are good overall and for upper abs, but the leg lifts are a good follow-up, and work the lower abs too. But gymnastics - no interest or time. Just want to run and lift weights. Quote
i_like_sun Posted November 18, 2007 Author Posted November 18, 2007 Gymnastics is like weight training with your body. And doing the iron cross is way more fun than bicep curls (not that I can do a good iron cross - I'll will get there!). Quote
