mbynum Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Anyone know what the conditions of the Goat Rocks peaks are around mid-October? I'm contemplating trying to get up Old Snowy and Ives either the weekend of the 14th or the 20th. Quote
jaee Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 I try to get in there the 1st or 2nd weekend in Oct. After that it's an even bet that it'll be raining. If it's not raining it's awesome in there that time of year. Cold at night so no bugs and there are usually less people then as well. I've done a few weekends in there hitting Old Snowy, traversing the McCall gl to Ives, then tagging Curtis Gilbert the next day. Quote
nkane Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 I did a day hike there in early november - cold with 6 inches of weeks-old crusty snow on the ground. It was a good hike though, nice and sunny. Quote
sobo Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I've been into the GRWA many times when I used to live in Crackima. September thru October is a wonderful time to be in there, as jaee previously mentioned, and for exactly those reasons. You'll have a great time. There's generally a pretty good fall weather window from Labor Day to about mid-October or so (Indian Summer). At least, that's been my repeated experience over the past 10 years or so... YMMV. Quote
mbynum Posted January 4, 2008 Author Posted January 4, 2008 Thanks for the info. Ended up not going as climbing partners' plans got messed. I may look at heading in late this year though. Quote
