Woody48 Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 I've been checking the trip reports but I haven't seen anything lately. Does anyone have any up to date information on the conditions for the Mazama Glacier route? We're considering this climb. Quote
bobinc Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 As of Monday, the road to Bird Creek Meadows wasn't yet open. Snow level isn't extreme this year so that road may open before July 4. I am unsure of the rules on access there because the road is in the Yakama Reservation, but call Trout Lake Ranger Station in a few days to see if there is an update. Of course you can also access the route from Cold Spring TH. Quote
treknclime Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 There were snow machine tracks all the way up the headwall (left side) up to the ridge leading to the lunch counter as of 2 weeks ago... Quote
Woody48 Posted July 7, 2007 Author Posted July 7, 2007 We're now back from our trip to the Cascades. The Mazama Glacier route on Adams was in good shape. The approach to Sunrise camp from Bird Creek Meadows was fairly easy. We enjoyed good weather. There were a few small cravasses on the Mazama but we were able to easily negotate around them along the right side of the glacier to where the grade starts to ease. We then traversed left across the glacier towards the rock bands leading towards the south route. One large cravasse just before getting to the rocks but again easily avoided. One rope team in our group went up the Mazama Headwall to the south climb and did not have any major issues (only the one cravasse one member stepped into but was easily extracted). Had great views from the summit. Quote
