pamczak Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 I tried to get to Cloud Cap Campground two weeks ago, but the road was still with lots of snow. Does anybody know of current conditions there? Anybody tried the route? Quote
billbob Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Call Mt Hood Rangers office for the North side- 541-352-6002 and ask when they will open the road to Cloud Cap. Last year it wasn't until late June.. They usually wait until the snow is gone. You can always drive to the gate, then hike up the old trail marked with blue arrows. You'll see the trail and markers as you walk up the road. Otherwise you can always skin up. Cloud Cap campground site has running water but that isn't turned on until they open the road. Quote
ivan Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 a fun route through early summer - i'm sure it's great right now  walk up the trail to cloud-cap - camp there or further up just below the snow dome - do the route the next day - descend the same or go down the cooper spur for an enchainment kinda thing - you can easily link the snow off the spur back down to the elliot Quote
pamczak Posted May 17, 2007 Author Posted May 17, 2007 Will try this route soon, again... I hate staying in line on South Side. Thanks. Quote
sean_beanntan Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Dont stay in line, climb the Reid Headwall and decend West Crater Rim. Excellent condition at the moment Quote
