Schoeller Gear

Has anyone given soft shells (Schoeller et al) a try? I'm wondering how they perform under PNW conditions, how tough they are and what sort of care they require to keep them water-repellent. Or are they just another scam to leach every last penny out of gear-heads?

Im too poor to have a coat yet, but the pants are great. They shed snow and light rain yet breath like fleece. If you do get wet they dry pretty quickly. Fair on the weight and compression depending on the design.

powershield kicks ass for winter. it keeps DWR well too.

you will get wet wearing schoeller in the rain all day while bushwacking unless you have the new techy stuff with a wp/b laminate in it. in which case you have basically a gore jacket with a soft outer. and then it depends which one has better DWR as to which one keeps you drier.

I have Cloudveil's Serendipity jacket and except

for the rain mentioned above, the jacket is the

best piece of inner/outer wear that I own(the

most versatile,for sure!). What makes Schoeller

fabrics so great,is the fact that there durable

(if abraded,they maintain unaffected wind/water

RESISTANCE (not wind/water PROOF!),they're much

more tear resistant and breath much better than

wind block fleece. I would say to stay away from

the stuff with the laminate, as this will decrease

the durability.Nuff said?
