fheimerd Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 What's it like this time of year? Snow coverage on the ridges, approach, etc... Quote

PeterC Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Skied/climbed the S ridge of Black Pk this weekend. Lots of snow the whole way. Traverse from Heather Pass to Lewis Lk is relatively low-angle sidehilling through avy debris, but w/ cliffs below and HUGE cornices above. Might be mildly unpleasant if it was too icy and dangerous if it was too warm. Most of the S ridge was snowy couloir - I wished I hadn't left my skis at the base. The top 20' or so were rock and snow-covered rock. Might be better to wait a few days after the last snow before attempting. All in all a fun climb. 7hrs car to car. Quote
fheimerd Posted May 9, 2007 Author Posted May 9, 2007 Anyone up there get a look at the NE ridge? Quote
