jjd Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Thoughts wanted on the Osprey Exposure 50 for: Weekend mountain trips OR Laid-back weekend backpacking trips How does this pack compare to other packs of the same size? Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 I'm looking at that pack as well for multi day ski traverses and the like. Not many packs in that category seem to allow for easily carrying a shovel. Quote
yesman Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 I've use the Exposure 50 for 2 seasons for everything from 3-day winter climbs to short summer stuff and like it. It's light, handles moderately heavy loads well and is comfortable. I wish it had two "side pockets" for pickets - also, the one it does have is small and you have to really jam to get 3 pickets it and since the pocket is made from light weight nylon it can tear (mine did). The "straight jacket" feature on the back holds a shovel pretty well. Quote
SFDonner Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 I'll second that. I've used it for BC skiing and as a general cragging pack and it's fantastic. It's light for the capacity and load-bearing capability, while still being made of a relatively burly material. I haven't had the occasion to carry pickets, although I too wish the little pocket at the bottom of the side panel was on the other side as well. Inset material (hypalon?) crampon patch is sweet. Solid pack for sure. Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Is the aluminum frame removeable from the Exposure 50? The guy at REI had no clue. Quote
jjd Posted May 11, 2007 Author Posted May 11, 2007 Thanks for the feedback - I just bought it today. Can't wait to test it out. Quote
YWESKI Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 No, the framesheet cannot be removed like their old Ceres packs (and I AM working at REI ) Quote
