irish37 Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Want to do leuthold couloir Friday night. anyone been up that route recently? We would also like to ski down the south side. recommended to climb in AT boots and carry skiis, or just deal with the slog down and climb in my mountain boots? Quote
ivan Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 you can climb luet's in ski boots - i assume you'll have crampoons Quote
irish37 Posted April 9, 2007 Author Posted April 9, 2007 much obliged. you haven't had a chance to check it out within the last week or so have you? Quote
ivan Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 nope - it's a strait-forward, low-angle route though till summer sets in when it gets slushy n' shitty Quote
irish37 Posted April 10, 2007 Author Posted April 10, 2007 how far do you recommend skinning up? top of palmer, along the traverse through Irock saddle? Quote
letsroll Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 kind of depends on if you are planning to ski west crater rim. if you are then skin to I-rock. If not then skin a bit higher than the top of palmer to some rocks so that you have a flat traverse to I-rock. that way you get a longer ski down with out any more work. I have done it both ways and next time I will pack the skis up and ski leuthold's. Quote
