A few of us were discussing this tonight so I thought I would throw up the question to you folks for your opinions.

1) When do you decide to clean your cams?

2) When you clean them how do you do it?

My thoughts are

Only clean them when you can feel resistance, or sticking

Try to clean them by blowing them with an air compressor

If you use some lubricate, clean off the excess really well to avoid dirt sticking to the cam.

When? Pretty much when they don't feel smooth or you think they may bind.

How? I use the metolious cleaning kit but others don't like to buy this kit. This topic has been covered fairly well before... might want to do a search.

I'd rather not wait until they bind. I clean my cams on that rare day each year in the off-season when I am not doing anything. Last time I did it, I use a little ultrasonic bath with some dishwashing detergent and warm water. It worked great.

I clean mine by excerciseing them in warm water. Then lube once dry. I usually do it some time in the spring when It's almost climbing time but the weather sucks that day.

Nothing feeds the stoke like a day spent fondling gear.
