scheissami Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 Planning a trip to Whistler the first week of February. Any recommendations for some easy to moderate ice climbs in the area or on the way up from Portland? Guidebook recommendations would be helpful, too. There won't be a real ropegun in the group, so easier stuff, especially that's potentially top-rope friendly, would be a bonus. Cheers Quote
G-spotter Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 i would suggest posting this question about 5 days beforehand, because right now we have no idea what the conditions will be like first week of feb, so can't recommend anything as it might or might not be in when you get here. Quote
G-spotter Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 guidebook - there is only one. "West Coast Ice" 2nd edition by Don Serl buy it! Quote
scheissami Posted January 6, 2007 Author Posted January 6, 2007 Yeah, I understand the deal about conditions...but I suppose I'd still be interested in hearing about any routes that stand out at ~WI 2-3. I'll definitely pick up the book--thanks! Quote
Don_Serl Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 (edited) the guide will lay out pretty much everything available. the weather will determine what's climbable and not. best bet, in almost any conditions would be the Rambles, up on the Duffey Lake road, only an hour and a half or so from Whistler - lots to do, plenty high. if you hit a cold spell, the D'arcy road has lotsa climbs, closer to Wh. stay in touch with current conditions thru cc.com, and http://www.westcoastice.com/site4.aspx have fun! cheers, Edited January 7, 2007 by Don_Serl Quote
