Valid ASB Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 Hi, I have been using Raichles Eigers for about 10 years in the Sierras for moderate snow routes. I am thinking about getting a pair of the Makalu's as a replacement. Any feedback on these ? I like to have my aproach boot also be my climbing boot. Quote
k44 Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 I have a pair and love them. perfect for moderate snow routes, good for approach. i loosen them up for the descent once im back on the trail or safer terrain. make sure you wax them up good. they have heel and toe bails for heel and toe bail crampons. stiff sole is nice on steep ice/snow. dbconlin Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 yeah, good all-round mountaineering boot. not so good for steep ice. La Sportiva makes some higher, stiffer leather boots that would also be good for what you suggest, but may be able to take on a little more technical terrain when needed. Quote
