Denis98 Posted May 30, 2002 Posted May 30, 2002 I am thinking of doing sky pilot this weekend? Does anybody know what the roads are like and what is the best way to go this time of the year. Denis Quote
Dru Posted May 30, 2002 Posted May 30, 2002 Go in via Shannon Creek and plan to walk from the first switchbacks, you will need 4x4 or high clearance 2wd to get that far. Snow should appear from where you turn into Shannon Cr valley if not before. Gunsight Gap couloir and west ridge should be white right now. I would recommend you try west ridge based on your previous email to me. Quote
jordop Posted May 30, 2002 Posted May 30, 2002 Last time I checked, Stawamus/Indian FSR is closed (two weeks ago). Quote
Travis Posted May 30, 2002 Posted May 30, 2002 Heard there was an avalanche blocking the road and they don't expect it to melt out for at least a month or so. (a friend called the forest service) I have not personally been up there to look so I don't know if they've opened the gate or not, but I'd go with the expectation of walking that road. If you go or hear different, please post it here. I'd like to head up there myself. Quote

Dru Posted May 30, 2002 Posted May 30, 2002 It can be faster to hike up the Upper Shannon Falls trail and link up with the road system, than hike from the gate at the chlorine shed... more direct. Quote
jesse_mason Posted June 10, 2002 Posted June 10, 2002 the gate is open, you can get yourself to at least the boulders blocking the shannon creek road. The indian river road has a avalanche at 13km Quote
jesse_mason Posted June 18, 2002 Posted June 18, 2002 oh and for all the four wheelers who could sneak by the boulders blocking the shannon creek road, that isnt happening. They have dropped an enormous boulder over the path. Any one with a tractor? Quote
