Doug_Hutchinson Posted October 30, 2002 Posted October 30, 2002 I haven't been on the Coe in years but think I am ready again. Last time, I approached by Snow Dome via the Elliot and descended to the base of the route. Has anyone used the Timberline Trail/Elk Cove approach to the west lateral Elliot moraine? Has anyone avoided Snow Dome altogether and approached the route directly by hiking up the valley to the base of the Coe (I have no idea if this is even possible)? Quote
ivan Posted October 30, 2002 Posted October 30, 2002 i climbed around in the upper elliot icefall on sunday and descended the west moraine...the west moraine trail is pretty straight forward and beat in...basically just stay left until you arrive at the snow dome (all ice now)...as far as approaching via the elliot, the gap we found to snow dome required climbing pretty high up into the icefall, then traversing over...probably would be faster to take the west moraine if the coe was all you cared about...both would be better than bushwhacking uphill from the timberline at the coe's base Quote
