KingsMM Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Hey i am wanting to climb but the rock is wet so i was wondering about ice climbing. About when does the Ice start to freeze? Is there anything fozen now no more than 3 hours from portland? The only ice climbing i have done was on cravases so this would need to be easy WI. Quote
ryland_moore Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 You can always go up on Hood! Maybe these low temps coming in will help around the 3-5k' elevation, but rarely anything freezes. Look on this web for Strawberry Mountains ice climbing (usually need a snowmobile or a long day or xc skiing to get back there) or there is ice in the Wallowas (5 hrs.) Mt. Hood sometimes gets flows coming off the rocks near Cooper Spur, but probably snowed in by now. Portland, an ice climbing mecca, it is not.... Quote
JosephH Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 All you PDX ice climbers be careful this year if things don't set up hard again. Seems like I remember last season there being a few injuries... Quote
