aussie69 Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 whats the diffrence between outer metal frames between just regular hiking back packs? Quote
G-spotter Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Outer metal frames are what was used during the caveman era before fire as invented. Quote
catbirdseat Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Internal frame packs are more popular with climbers because they keep the load closer to one's center of gravity. External frame packs are still used by backpackers who travel primarily on good trails, because they can be more comfortable, especially in warm weather. Quote
dbconlin Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 External frames distribute a really heavy load better. It is less important how you pack the bag. They aren't as comfortable. Internal frames depend to a large extent on a skillful pack job. The weight is closer to your back and results in a lower center of gravity, for keeping balance in awkward positions. They are lower profile for bushwacking. More comfortable (if packed right, and load is not excessive). Quote
G-spotter Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 then there is frameless packs like the Wild Things Turgid Sausage Quote
