Climb: Mt. Maude-North Face

Date of Climb: 7/16/2006

Trip Report:

Climbed Mt. Maude N. Face on Sunday. The route’s condition was excellent. Temps just touched freezing early Sunday morning. We were at the base of the route at 7:30 a.m. and topped out at 10 a.m. The route was firm down low and frozen/shaded near the top. We decided to approach the route from Leroy Creek via the Upper Ice Lake and the Entiat Glacier instead of the Seven Finger Col suggested by Nelson/Potterfield. This adds some mileage (more character building) but provides a scenic, comfortable bivi at Upper Ice Lake, and an awesome view of the Maude/Seven Finger Jack/Fernow Circ during the final approach. We also considered approaching or returning via the Carne Mt. trail but we decided it would require too much scrambling. A party ahead of us traversed onto the route from the Seven Finger col/ledges and missed several hundred feet of climbing. The bottom and top most sections of the route were the most interesting, and the climb is short enough as it is. So, we felt our approach was a better choice. We each brought and used a second tool. We placed a couple of pickets. The route was skied two weeks earlier, but is now discontinuous. It should be in good shape for a few more weeks.

I added some photos to my gallery:

Good advice on embedding the pictures. In addition, you can just remove the "-med" from the filename to reference the big, oringinal picture.

If you are using Firefox, you can just right click on the image and choose "Copy Image Location", then you just paste into the p><p> [img]<a href=http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/upload/images/1236.jpg' alt='1236.jpg'>
