the black bear is more scared of me

than i am of it. after regaling my poor husband with tales of black bear encounter on Sunday, he reminds me of this backcountry truism "the bear is more scared of you than you are of him". I am unconvinced given the cavalier way the bear strolled past.

How come there's no "yes and no" option?

 

If you surprise the bear, you're pretty scary. If it's used to people, you probably aren't (mind you, I've never met you, so I couldn't say for sure). The tasty morsels are those Gu packs and Luna bars in your pockets -- the black bear doesn't eat people.
