MountaingirlBC Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 ... this weekend? Have AWD but not a truck. Thx for any info! Quote
MisterMo Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 I wuz past there Tuesday on the way to Baker & I doubt you'd get far at all. I was tempted to swing up & check it out on the way home but we were running late. Hopefully you'll get better info than this.......... Quote
MountaingirlBC Posted March 24, 2006 Author Posted March 24, 2006 I'm kicking myself because I did the same thing. I got distracted by baked goods at Glacier Sports and forgot to go back and check out the road. Quote
ashw_justin Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Things are way snowed in right now. Roads were are snowy and impassible by normal vehicles as low as 1300 feet this past weekend. That means a hike or skin in the ballpark of 5 miles to get to the usual climbing trailheads. Quote
MountaingirlBC Posted March 24, 2006 Author Posted March 24, 2006 that's what I was afraid of. I couldn't believe how much snow was up at Artist Point last weekend. Anyone have any other suggestions for an overnight in the Baker area this weekend? Quote
ashw_justin Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 I'm not sure the weather forecast is going to leave you with many attractive overnight options. This seems more like mountain-biking/whitewater kayaking weather to me... Quote
MountaingirlBC Posted March 24, 2006 Author Posted March 24, 2006 I was thinking we could surf down. Quote

Anyone have any other suggestions for an overnight in the Baker area this weekend? Things seem stable enough to me right now that it might be a good weekend to ski into Ruth. Quote
MountaingirlBC Posted March 24, 2006 Author Posted March 24, 2006 Ruth would be great but we'll be on snowshoes *ugh* so I had ruled that one out due to the long approach too. Anyone know how close u can get to that th? Quote
MisterMo Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 It looked like the road was blocked by snow just after where you turn off so you would have to walk all the road. Don't remember how many miles of road. I think Hannegan Pass is 5 (?) miles of trail plus another mile or so to Ruth. It's a trip that begs for skis and low avy hazard. Quote
plexus Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Yellow Aster Butte, Goat Mtn, Elbow Lake by Twin Sisters. Just a few that come to mind for snhoes Quote
