Dru Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 I went in with a group of 10 people on a snowshoe trip to the Brian Waddington Hut in Phelix Creek. There was too much snow for hiking, but, except for right around the hut, not enough snow for pleasant skiing. snowshoes weredefinitely the preferred option but it meant that we didn't do anything around the hut once we got there. Approach took 8.5 hours to go 6 km, with the last km in the dark taking 4 hours using GPS, map and compass in a heavy blizzard. Of course, larger groups are slower groups but we ended up trading trailbreaking duties off every hundred meters or so, so no one got fully exhausted. Saturday we sat around the hut, and ate and drank all day long with a raging whiteout outside. Sunday we came out as the skies cleared. One person twisted her ankle on the way down so we had to double-carry her pack. But we all made it back to Pemberton in time for burgers and Guinness. I would like to go back on skis when there is more snow Quote
Geek_the_Greek Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Sounds like fun. So are you a skier now? Quote
Dru Posted November 14, 2005 Author Posted November 14, 2005 Yes. Your guitar is still in the hut, with 2 nylon and 3 steel strings- it is the least tuned guitar in the world apparently. Quote
Geek_the_Greek Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Sweet! Maybe I'll finally get up there sometime this winter to tune it up and replace them. So the real question is - tele or AT? Quote
Geek_the_Greek Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 It's a VOC hut, you have to go tele. Exactly. Preferably on 210 cm 3-pin Karhus. 's okay, Dru. It's still cool you're into skiing now. Quote
HyperPlanesDrifter Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Go with PHAT skis (love optional , AT or tele (or both, depending on conditions Even better, if PHAT's are not phat enough get a floater board Quote
