I went in with a group of 10 people on a snowshoe trip to the Brian Waddington Hut in Phelix Creek.

There was too much snow for hiking, but, except for right around the hut, not enough snow for pleasant skiing. snowshoes weredefinitely the preferred option but it meant that we didn't do anything around the hut once we got there.

Approach took 8.5 hours to go 6 km, with the last km in the dark taking 4 hours using GPS, map and compass in a heavy blizzard. Of course, larger groups are slower groups but we ended up trading trailbreaking duties off every hundred meters or so, so no one got fully exhausted.

Saturday we sat around the hut, and ate and drank all day long with a raging whiteout outside.

Sunday we came out as the skies cleared. One person twisted her ankle on the way down so we had to double-carry her pack. But we all made it back to Pemberton in time for burgers and Guinness. bigdrink.gif

I would like to go back on skis when there is more snow fruit.gif
