Chad_A Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 Just bought an adze for one of my Quarks for use in the alpine, and noticed on the directions that you're supposed to throw away the old bolts afterward. What exactly dictates that you throw them away? Are they stretch bolts, or do the lockwashers somehow crush after you use them? Or is it just Petzl covering their asses, and they don't really need to be thrown away? Quote
genepires Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 Petzl feels that if the pick has seen enough abuse to warrant a new pick, then the connection to the axe (bolt) must have also seen abuse and should therefore be changed. Is the old bolt really trashed? probably not. Maybe someone has heard of a case were a old bolt failed and they started this new policy, but I doubt it. It is probably a result from a question arising at a meeting in petzl headquarters or something. Since you are given a new bolt, seems like a good idea to change it out. Quote
Chad_A Posted November 6, 2005 Author Posted November 6, 2005 Ok, that's what I figured. More or less, I was just wondering whether or not to throw away the old hardware, because it looks to be in fine shape. Thanks for the input, Gene Quote
