sweatinoutliquor Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Hey Everyone, I got to make a trip to Salt Lake City from November 6-11 for a conference, and I was wondering if there is any easily accessable solo climbing oppertunities there (i've never been). I guess you can take a shuttle up to little cottonwood canyon, but I was thinking that none of the ice would be in yet. I had hoped to be skiing when I was there, but I hear it's been really warm. Anyway, if you have any info about easy stuff that would be great. Also, if you can tell me if it would be better to bring crampons and toolz, or climbing shoes I would appreciate it. Thanks! Quote
cj001f Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 If it's too warm to ski climb rock in the Cottonwoods. Quote
J_Fisher Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 It would have to be unusually cold for their to be any ice climbing by then. The ice season there is short and iffy. I'd check the Wx right before leaving, but most likely rock shoes for sure. The winter weather there is really volatile--swings from sub-zero to t-shirt in a matter of days aren't unusual. Quote
EWolfe Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Joe's Valley is good if you like to boulder. Quote
E-rock Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 If it's too warm to ski climb rock in the Cottonwoods. Â Hear Hear. Bring rock shoes, you'll just be disappointed if you bring crapons. At worst you can BOULDER in the cottonwoods and not drive all the way to Joe's. There's plenty of BETTER bouldering in utah than Joe's valley. Quote
sweatinoutliquor Posted October 28, 2005 Author Posted October 28, 2005 Okay, thanks folks. Pointy things are a pain to travel with anyway! Maybe I'll just go for a hike or something, and bring the shoes in the event that I find something to play on. Thanks again! Quote
Thinker Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 (edited) Dig me up for a brew or some chow when you're in town. I'm pretty much tied to my office from 8 - 5 most days, but I'd be happy to lend you guidebooks or any gear you may need. Â edit: here's a resource for you http://www.climbingsaltlake.com/rock/ Â Â Edited October 31, 2005 by Thinker Quote
fgw Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Not sure how much free time you'll actually have, but if you got a full day Moab is only 4 hrs away. Better chance of dry weather and a lot warmer than SLC. Might find a partner at www.climbingmoab.com on short notice. Quote
