catbirdseat Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 I wonder if they still had that characteristic rosy complexion? Quote
Cobra_Commander Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 I wonder if friends would like to read about musings on their found condition. Quote
Dru Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 I wonder if friends would like to read about musings on their found condition. Â And see the rescue team photos? Quote
Cobra_Commander Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 Perhaps the difference can be seen between theorizing wildly about grim detail and actually establishing what happened to provide therapeutic closure. Quote

Couloir Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Jus relaying what I heard on the radio.... I think CC was referring CBS's comment about the rosy cheeks. Quote
catbirdseat Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Not everyone may be aware of this indication of carbon monoxide poisoning. It is a good thing to be able to recognize it. Quote
sweatinoutliquor Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 I don't think that CBS was trying to be rude or offensive... I had never heard of this as an early warning symptom, and last night my housemate told me a story about a near death experience where one of his caving partners reconized the "rosy cheeks" and symptoms allowing them to get out of what could have been a bad situation. Glad to know about it... That stuff scares me. Quote
catbirdseat Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Carbon dioxide is the gas that triggers our brains to make us breathe. If it builds up, we feel like we are suffocating. Carbon monoxide doesn't have this same effect, but it displaces oxygen from hemoglobin, and in fact binds more tightly than oxygen itself. When you are being poisoned by CO, you are not aware of a sensation of suffocation. You may feel a headache however before you lapse into unconsciousness. Quote
