Dr_Crash Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Hi, My friend has only a short day Saturday to climb, and we'd like to do better than cragging. I am looking for ideas of something we can summit around the area in a short amount of time besides obvious candidates like the Tooth and Ingalls Peak. No tough rock climbing please: I tore muscles in my left arm and forearm and am supposed to give them a rest. drC Quote
catbirdseat Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 How about Darrington? Three O'Clock Rock has several easy to moderate climbs under 5.9 and from three to five pitches. Drive time is 90 minutes from Seattle. Quote
Crack Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 guye peak -super close, lickety split approach, aesthetic peak/west face; left hand skyline is mellow and fast (south buttress). hike it or climb short little sections if you choose. Quote
chucK Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Vesper Peak, big North Slab. You can easily avoid the glacier and lower buttress shenanigans via a nice, slightly exposed ramp that crosses beneath the steep face. See this link. This shortcut will allow you to do it in a short day. The level of difficulty is similar to the Tooth or Ingalls. From the little tarn/lake between Vesper and Sperry head up toward the notch that is one notch closer to Vesper than the main one. Slabbing is probably a good choice too for injured arm muscles. Dr_Crash Posted August 28, 2005 Author Posted August 28, 2005 Thanks for the ideas all. Catbird, I had dismissed Darrington, I wanted a climb not just rock climbing. My partner ended up not even having time, so road biking was my day's program. But I'll keep those in mind for future use. drC Quote
catbirdseat Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 You mean to say you want something that has an alpine feel or one that reaches a summit? Darrington routes have a nice alpine feel to them, I think. Only Exfoliation Dome is a true summit though. Quote
