Gary_Yngve Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 I don't see what the big deal is about them. They don't afford that much weight savings (2.5 oz in total), and whereas WC rocks 2-6 are rated to 12 kN, the ultralights are rated to only 6 kN. Personally I prefer my pro to be stronger than 6 kN. Anyone else have any differing opinions? Quote
mec Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 2.5 oz is nothing, but if you are a weight hungry alpinist or super trad climber it is probably worth it. I like my DMM wallnuts personally, but I couldn't tell you how much they weigh, they are good and strong though. Quote
Gary_Yngve Posted August 25, 2005 Author Posted August 25, 2005 But wouldn't you be worried about taking a big whipper onto it? Wouldn'y you rather have a belay anchor of 12 kN pieces rather than 6kN pieces? Maybe the elite alpinists are using them for aid? I'm confused. Quote
Dru Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 When you are rapping off one it doesn't matter if it will hold 6 or 12 kN? Quote
kioti Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 They're pretty sexy, though. They'd look good popping! Quote
JoshK Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Do people actually carry nuts specifically for rapping off them? I guess that is news to me. I carry non-lead strength tat for rapping off (that 5kn stuff) but dont ever bring gear specifically intented to rap off. In other words, 6kn pro does seem to have pretty limited utility. Quote
