Do you like it Soft or Hard?

Say you're planning on doing all of Doughtery's Alpine Climbs, would you be packing a hard or soft shell more often on average?

I've always preferred it hard, but then again i'm kinky that way...oh wait! What are we talking about?

I've never used soft shell before. I've been meaning to make a thread about them. They seem too thick for me. I think I'd rather go with the traditional layer system, because it seems like I would be either too hot or too cold if I used a soft shell.
