Gaper_Jeffy Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 (edited) I just called the USFS re Cloud Cap road. They informed me that their engineer had just returned from examining the road and found conditions very wet, and that someone had *SHOCK* driven around the gate and left "10" ruts"(sic) in the road. They stated it'll be another 2 - 3 weeks before opening, unless we get another period of hot weather.. Also, Timberline’s telemetry shows 1.77”s of precip falling in the past 24 hours with temps hovering in the mid 30s. That’s like 17”s of freshiez above 7500ft! Chriznitch Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 Why is the USFS so lame? yeah...why was this gate put in a logical location? Quote
cj001f Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Why is the USFS so lame? Because they have an ever shrinking maintenance budget and they don't feel like rebuilding the road every year? Quote
Gaper_Jeffy Posted June 10, 2005 Author Posted June 10, 2005 Hey wait, I didn't mean to call the USFS lame for wanting to wait for the road to dry out, rather I was refering to how astounded I was by how short the receptionist was with me, and how long it took her to tell me the status of the road. She must have been a MILF, because she was so difficult. Anyway, lets start thinking about this: Quote
Couloir Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Anyway, lets start thinking about this: I have been eyeing that for a long time now. How high up on Sunshine can you start skiing (earlier in the season of course)? I realize you eventually have to deal with the shrund, but can you start as high as Horsecock Rock? That thing looks beautiful! Quote
Gaper_Jeffy Posted June 10, 2005 Author Posted June 10, 2005 I have been eyeing that for a long time now. How high up on Sunshine can you start skiing (earlier in the season of course)? I've never skied higher then the top of the 'dome, but I've wanted to ski the full Sunshine route before and I'm pretty sure you could ski all the way from the ridge w/o much dificulty when it's in shape. Iain would know better then I. The photo is from the middle of last June, it sure looked like the full Sunshine route would have gone then. Quote
Chad_A Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Whoa, that's a recent pic? If the freezing level was down, and you could get high enough before the sun hit hard, the NF would go fine. What a strange year. The NF in June? Go figure. Quote
Gaper_Jeffy Posted June 20, 2005 Author Posted June 20, 2005 The first pic in this thread isn't recent, it was taken last year. The 10" ruts in the road (taht's sic the USFS), are 10"s wide if even that, they're not a problem at all. The road is in fine shape. Here's photos from yesterday. The northface: Upper sunshine route: There's skiing photos in the Freshieze zone forum. Quote
Couloir Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Awesome pics. Thanks! The NF doesn't look half bad. Though it's not cold enough to climb, it looks tasty. And so does Sunshine for that matter. Quote
