Ponzini Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Anyone been there recently and know how far you can drive before you hit the snow? Quote
PaulB Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 In late December, Jordop and I only had to ski about 5km into the cirque. There's gotta be less snow on the road now, although it might icier. Even if the road is bare, you can only drive to the point where it crosses the Sumallo, which is about 2km from the head of the cirque. Quote
Dru Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 i think you need a snowmobile fred b went to take a look and ended up going to smith instead Quote
jordop Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 If FB didn't have a truck he wouldn't get more than 2-3 km past the end of the public road anyways due to waterbars. The road is not steep and as long as the snowpack is firm you should be able to drive to the turnaround 5-6 km from the head of the valley. With chains in a truck I think you should be fine. PB and I drove on a foot and a half of snow for quite a while w/o chains. Few steep grades. Quote
Dru Posted March 14, 2005 Posted March 14, 2005 road looks to be melted out to near the head of the valley zero gully and minus five looked fat payne was quite impressive see photo from outram in outram TR Quote
bigwallpete Posted March 14, 2005 Posted March 14, 2005 Can you give the link. I'm not very good with the search engine yet Thanks Quote
Ponzini Posted March 14, 2005 Author Posted March 14, 2005 Thanks for the info everyone, we went up the Mamquam instead and drove to 4300' and climbed Mt Gillespie - a possible FWA? By the way Drew, what you posted on the other site as a photo of the Pinecone Lake peaks doesn`t show Gillespie, it`s actually further behind. I`ll put up some shots soon... And nice work on Outram Quote
