joshrk99 Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 has anyone heard/been up the south route to mt. hood lately? with the beautiful northwest weather i have spring fever. thinking about going early saturday, any reports?? Quote
layton Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 so far as i know conditions haven't gotten any worse than a mindless slog, so boring and ugly you'll concider chewing off your tongue for some stimulus, all the while right next to a ski lift with people having way more fun than you will be on pretty ho-hum ski terrain. Ireneo_Funes Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 Don't listen to Layton; he's old and jaded. Conditions look promising...and you won't get lonely up there, waiting in line at the hogsback. Â Have fun. Quote
skyhigh Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 My friend, Roy, and I climbed the route yesterday and had a great day. Met another climber who said he's climbed it a couple times a year for the past twenty years and yesterday was the best weather he's climbed in. Saw a total of 5 other climbers. Â Parts of the climb were a slog sure but what climb doesn't have a slog factor? The Hogsback and Pearly Gates were fun. We left our snowshoes in the car but I wish we would have brought them. Used crampons from Hogsback on up. Beautiful day. Â Quote
joshrk99 Posted February 20, 2005 Author Posted February 20, 2005 went up saturday as planned. white-out conditions, visibility from 5-10ft from 5am. most climbers returning after reaching top of palmer chair. larger storm coming in after we reached parking lot. Quote
gearbot Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 Â went up Sunday morning in the horizontal snow, turned around at 9500 ft., in some places there was 1-2 ft. of new snow on top of a hard crust. Quote
