Steddy Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Climb: Manning Park-Go With The Flow Date of Climb: 2/10/2005 Trip Report: The gate is open/road open - T-bar and tubing slopes open (good alternative). Nepopekum was in shape for lunatics but wasn't planned on anyway. Substantial water flow, but this one has a chance - what an aesthetic climb and neat setting. Go with the flow looked OK from knoll by blue chair (aka "Fresh Air Experiences"), as hoped. Ice was...interesting, but pretty safe all in all. Stayed on the left side to be conservative while scoping it out, which still offers WI 4. Found it unique to be forced into climbing over several bulges that required (at least for the first go) driving picks in places I like to avoid (~less than a shaft length from the convexity) - somewhat heady, amongst other reasons. Some aerated ice covering pretty good, harder ice, some localized sheet delamination, and peg-boarded in places (divets for picks & feet). Center and right would go if you really want, I'd start with the right - and of course realize it's a little funky (but what kind of standards do we hold in the maritime anyway?). Leave early. Gear Notes: Snargs, titanium screws, big bros, alpenstocks. A few more screws than normal will ease the mind. Approach Notes: Narrow log walk with poles or a two step, one dunk hop will keep you dry right at Derek Falls. Quote
Dru Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 hmm it looks like manning mixed is in, you can see it just at the left edge of your nepopekum foto Quote
Don_Serl Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 tks for the post - i had some vague idea about heading up to see if nepopekum had re-frozen, and you've saved me the drive. 1350m, mid-february, and flowing like hell. it's just not right! cheers, Quote
Steddy Posted February 12, 2005 Author Posted February 12, 2005 (edited) If this is the correct Manning Mixed chimney and even if it's not, one would likely get drenched getting there, although i don't know the approach options down there. There was a 5m wide cascade of water in the circle and you can imagine what was below. Edited February 12, 2005 by Steddy Quote
Dru Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 oh you can get to manning mixed from the left, no water necessary Quote
