Blakej Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 I know a couple of you guys have been up there in the past couple days hows sking the chute look and is the snow in decent condition to teach the girl to self arrest? Quote
CPOly Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 I'm not exactly sure what conditions are like right now, but I think that with all of this fresh snow that has fallen recently self arrest would be pretty easy even without an ice axe. The soft snow would probably facilitate easier learning as it wouldn't take as much to stop yourself. Quote
tread_tramp Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 decent condition to teach the girl to self arrest? You might find decent conditions for triggering an avalanche. The consolidated conditions you find in the spring are much better for learning self- arrest. Quote
OlyRob Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 I talked to a lady at Alpine Experience(in Oly) that went up Ellinor on Saturday(Jan 8th) with 2 other people. They didnt make the summit because of "To much snow" and thought the place looked prime for a avalanch. Also, I heard the place has some pretty menacing cornices right now. I may try to head up there this weekend if the weather looks decent. Quote
OlyRob Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 Look for me on Sunday if you're up there and dont forget your snowshoes...you will need them - Rob Quote
