Bogen Posted December 15, 2004 Posted December 15, 2004 Anyone know this area well? I have specific needs - my buddy is getting married in Jasper on Tuesday, he wants me to take him ice climbing monday, he has one day of experience on ice 3 years ago. We have to be back by late afternoon, probably need to keep it around grade 3/4 and keep the obective hazard really low. I had been thinking Kerkeslin falls, but the avy hazard is moderate to high right now. I have never been to Rigid Digitator - how's the terrain above that? Maybe I should post this on livethevision... Quote
Dru Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 Maybe Maligne Canyon or Ogre Canyon? Close enough to town and possible to get a couple of short pitches in. Quote
LYleK Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 Maligne Canyon is a fun adventure, easy access in and out if you're watching the clock. It's a scenic, essentially horizontal romp through the chasm with a couple of 30m WI3's along the way. At the starting end there are 3 or 4 short (20m) climbs, WI2 to WI4. Melt Out is also good, 2 short pitches of WI3 not that far from the Parkway. PM me if you need more beta on approach. Quote
Bogen Posted December 16, 2004 Author Posted December 16, 2004 Melt Out fits the order, alright. Sorry, should have mentioned that the one day of climbing he's done was in Maligne, and he would like something else. Someone named Josh on livethevision suggests that the avy hazard on the first three pitches of Kerkeslin is nil. What do you think? I hadn't thought of that stuff east of the park. Have you been to Ogre canyon? How about Plastic Therapy? Quote
dbb Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 I've heard the kerkeslin is a great climb for the grade... Quote
LYleK Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 And another. It's aptly named, it gets a lot of sun: Quote
Bogen Posted December 16, 2004 Author Posted December 16, 2004 Wow, that Melt Out does look cool. And the approach seems acceptable. Here are some pictures of our trip up Maligne last March.(not the groom for this trip, but me and Dario) Quote
