iain Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 Climb: Mt. Hood-South Side Date of Climb: 11/14/2004 Trip Report: Damn right I'm posting a skiing tr for the south side. Started out at 0900. Skinning above the Palmer was largely dust on ice, lots of rime. No rock concerns. Was able to skin to the Hogsback, though this was a determined effort. More sensible people would carry them up around Crater Rock. The bergschrund is just a wall of ice right now, and you can walk right in. Above, the gates are quite icy, a little more involved than the May herd conditions. The ski down was surprisingly good in a few places. A few good shots were had over by Illumination Rock, but "good" is a relative term with the weather pattern we've been having. No problems skiing all the way to the lodge. Good to be skiing, period. Coverage is intermittent below the Mile. Gear Notes: Skis, skis, did I mention skis? Quote
