tread_tramp Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 *Monday, October 18, 2004* *T-Shirt, or not T-Shirt?* So, it appears that a Bush campaign volunteer got a little too paranoid about some attendees http://www.oregonlive.com/campaigncentral/oregonian/index.ssf?/base/ news/1097928233288440.xml> at the president's rally in Central Point on Thursday night. The attendees in question, three women who obtained tickets to the event after claiming they were undecided voters, wore T-shirts that said, "Protect Our Civil Liberties". The overzealous campaign volunteer stopped one of the women and pointed to her shirt, saying it was "obscene". The women were subsequently ejected from the rally by state police officers. Hmmm... so the protection of civil liberties is obscene now? The county Republican Chairman is quoted in this article as saying, "I wish (the women) would have just dressed in a way that was without that kind of intent to incite any kind of incident." Quote
EWolfe Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 This kind of thinking is becoming normal as we develop into a reactive culture, as determined by media, TV personalities and psychobabble politicians that treat each singular event as an assault upon our sensibilities. Live actively, and avoid this. Quote
catbirdseat Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 The Bush Administration knows it is treading on and trampling on civil liberties. Anyone who supports freedom of expression is regarded as being against the Administration. Quote
fenderfour Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 if it was a democratic rally, the shirts would have been torn up. Quote
rbw1966 Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 No, if it was a democratic rally the shirts would have been drenched with water. Quote
