J_Fisher Posted August 4, 2004 Posted August 4, 2004 Does anyone know if the modular hammer/adze doohickeys are compatible with other BD tools (e.g. Cobras) or is it viper specific? Quote
cj001f Posted August 4, 2004 Posted August 4, 2004 90% sure they are Viper-specific. I thought with the death of the Black Prophet all BD head's were the same? On the website they look the same... Quote
Lambone Posted August 4, 2004 Posted August 4, 2004 90% sure they are the same as the Cobras...call up Featherd Friends, they will know. Quote
J_Fisher Posted August 4, 2004 Author Posted August 4, 2004 OK . . . I went straight to the source and called BD . . . they said they're interchangeable. BTW, mountain gear is selling sets of vipers for a pretty good price right now. But you've got to get 1 axe/1 hammer, thus my question. Guess I'll be trying the leashless thing this next winter. Lambone Posted August 5, 2004 Posted August 5, 2004 J, the Vipers work great leashles with the Fang, Especialy for relatively moderate stuff. I can see how having the second pinky grip at the top of the handle could be usefulll, but those are easy enough to rig. Have fun! Quote
J_Fisher Posted August 5, 2004 Author Posted August 5, 2004 Thanks for the feedback Matt. Curious what you mean by "moderate" and why. Moderate means WI3 to some and sub WI7 or sub M9 to others. I expect to use the vipers for WI5/5+ and my occasional dabbling in easier M-climbs. Quote
Lambone Posted August 7, 2004 Posted August 7, 2004 haha yeah, moderate to me means water ice 4-easy 5 maybe some easy mixed. On a stout 5 I'll take some leashes anyday... I think for harder (read steep cave) mixed climbing there are better tools, and if you are climbing hard water ice you'd probly want a real leashless grip, like the Ergo. You'll like the Vipers....I do, the only thing I don't like is that they have a tendency to flex when you put alot of weight on one....which is a little unerving. Once you put the Fang on you probly won't take it off, you need this tiny Allen for it. I leave it on, even with leashes. Quote
