Szyjakowski Posted July 17, 2004 Author Posted July 17, 2004 I'm going this sunday. thanks for all the countless beta!!!! Quote
Szyjakowski Posted July 19, 2004 Author Posted July 19, 2004 wow, that place is such a chossheap... so close to the msb but soooo far away hardly worth the hike. Quote
Jens Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 I agree about the stone. One route I did was really long. Â Â Â It would be cool if someone would ferret out a cle elum area (rainshadow) crag that was quality because it never rains there an it is only 65 minutes from a lot of puget sound folk (vs. 2+ hours to 11 worth). It would be a heavily used resource for sure and would have 100 more climbing days a year than n. bend or index. Quote
high_on_rock Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 I am a cle Elum climber with some info, but I cannot understand the thread as to where you guys have been climbing. More info, and maybe I can give you some beta Quote
Szyjakowski Posted July 21, 2004 Author Posted July 21, 2004 lets see... it is approx 85miles to the crag... just how fast do you drive jens??? and i can make it to Ltown in under two hours. Quote
Jens Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 I live really close to the Issaquah i-90 on ramp and the speed limit is 70 but I do 78ish. It's 65 minutes to downtown cle elum from my place. I guess I neglected to remember that the crag is out of town a ways. My bad. Â It would still be nice if something was off I-90 just east of the crest for the rainshadow effect when rained out on a north bend trip. Â I seems to rain more at index. Quote
Szyjakowski Posted July 21, 2004 Author Posted July 21, 2004 well index is on wetside of the crest. we should go climb sometime. Quote
catbirdseat Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 I take it you guys are referring to the obvious sandstone formations visible to the South from downtown Cle Elum. They look like the ubiquitous Swak Sandstone found in such places as Peshastin Pinnacles. Without ever having gone there, it looks as though you'd have to put up linse of bolts to do much of anything. Quote
larrythellama Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 nope there is some of that rhino rock north of the middle of those 3 lakes. you go up some canyon. lotsa sport routes, tho there are supposed issues with access....???? Quote
Jason_Martin Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 There are a few sandstone formations up the road above the township of Liberty. These are poorly bolted sandstone climbs which have repeatedly had bolt hangers stolen over many many years of half-assed exploration. The area's pretty bad when you consider that Leavenworth is so close. Â Jason Quote
Szyjakowski Posted July 31, 2004 Author Posted July 31, 2004 not worth the time... go to smith. way better choss. Quote
