JackY Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 I'm looking for information regarding wear on my ATC. The break hand side of the ATC is rounded from the rope running around it, but on the other side a square edge is being created by the rope running straight out of it. This doesn't look like a problem unless the rope was reversed, e.g. use the opposite side for the break, or on rappel, where one strand gets the round edge and the other gets the square edge. Any idea when it should be retired? Quote
matt_warfield Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 I would recommend retiring it when you start to worry about it.......which would appear to be now. In the meantime keep using each side the way you do now. BTW, you are "braking"- climbers don't like to asssociate the word break with their belay device. Quote
Greg_W Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 Replace it when one of the "oval"-looking openings starts looking like a "U" Quote
