CleeshterFeeshter Posted July 5, 2002 Posted July 5, 2002 Has anyone out there done both of these routes and have a preference of one over the other. Are the standard route aesthetics good as in not a lot of people and some route finding issues? Quote
Dru Posted July 5, 2002 Posted July 5, 2002 Kain Face is "standard" SE route has way more objective hazards like seracs falling on your head. There are probably 10x more summitters via Kain route than SE side. But the hike in to the Kain Face is longer. Quote
Jedi Posted July 6, 2002 Posted July 6, 2002 Statistical, when is the best month to give Robson a shot. The North Face route has always looked beautiful to me but I understand the weather can be a little......unseattled at times Jedi Quote
mattp Posted July 6, 2002 Posted July 6, 2002 Contact the rangers, but I bet early August is your best bet. Weather and snow conditions do turn many parties back, but I bet most of the time the conditions on the North Face are no worse than those on the Kain Face. Quote
Dru Posted July 8, 2002 Posted July 8, 2002 it is said, that the full moon brings stable weather to Robson. probably a bunch of horsecock but it worked for Team Dirtbag when they skiied it. Quote
haireball Posted July 9, 2002 Posted July 9, 2002 up north face down Kain face made a nice combination when I did it. the two routes are about the same technical difficulty, but the north face is twice as long... weather is a crapshoot--just leave yourself plenty of time if you can... another advantage to the Kain face /north face is the opportunity to approach through the "Valley of 1000 Falls" - a stunning walk worth doing even if you never get on the mountain proper...
