Squid Posted April 15, 2004 Posted April 15, 2004 On previous posts, I've heard that the descent from University Wall is sometimes complicated by closure b/c bird nesting. I checked the BC Access site, and didn't find any mention of current closures, but just wanted to confirm before I headed up. Also, any reason to pick Roman Chimneys over Bellygood Ledge if descending w/ shitload of aid gear? Thanks in advance for your kind & thoughtful response. Quote
fern Posted April 15, 2004 Posted April 15, 2004 no bird closures this year. Roman Chimneys would probably add another day of climbing - and hauling up a chimney. there is a full rap route from Dance Platform down in the vicinity of Uncle Ben's (labeled in guide book). Could probably avoid hauling right up to Dance Platform and rap U-Wall itself with a few traversing type raps at the top. The rap from U-Wall approach ledge to Flake Ledge (sort of down the climb White Streak) IS A FULL 60 METERS - tie knots!! Quote
Squid Posted April 15, 2004 Author Posted April 15, 2004 Thanks for the advice, Fern. It buys you a beer if you're at the brewpub Sunday night. ps. Just to confirm- the backside trail is only accessible if you top out via Roman Chimneys? Quote
fern Posted April 15, 2004 Posted April 15, 2004 no ... from bellygood you hike across the top of tantalus wall, down some short slabs and into the forest above the staircase on the backside trail. Quote
Dru Posted April 15, 2004 Posted April 15, 2004 if you walk off on Bellygood Ledge a good trail leads past and across some low angle slabs above the bulletheads to link up into the backside trail about 15 minutes hike above the campground. Quote
