mattp Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 They ripped out culverts, added burms, and refilled a road- cut on that road leading to Static Point, also. Unfortunately, they left the ripped up culverts sitting in the road, the biggest piece of trash you've ever seen in your life. And a friend of a friend of mine drove his 4x4 right accross the refilled road, where it must be at least 30 degrees sidehill. Quote
MisterMo Posted April 20, 2004 Posted April 20, 2004 They've done a few of them in the Sky Ranger District. They pull culverts & fills & generally raise hell with the roadbed to the tune of, if I remember correctly, about $10,000 per mile. This is many times annual maintenance costs, but when I squawked the FS countered that $$$ allocated for eradication could not be used for Maint. Go figure. At least eradicated roads cannot be driven by anyone. If I have to hoof it (and I don't really mind), then the whiz kids in the institutional green trucks should as well. Quote
lancegranite Posted April 20, 2004 Posted April 20, 2004 Usually this type of restoration is done by the dept. of fish and game. I did some of this work in Darrington a few years back. It is more common than one might think... we usually are not so interested in the areas that this type of watershed restoration is done. Quote
