Gary_Yngve Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 Did Outer Space today. (Remorse start, 5.9 pitch above two tree ledge, 5.9 start to the last pitch) What a classic route! Those chickenheads up there are wild! Partner was quite late picking me up in the morning, so we weren't at the base of the route ready to climb until nearly noon. After my partner (who intended to swing leads) spent well over an hour following the 5.8 traverse pitch (I protected before and after each traverse but not in the middle of the traverse, meaning the follower could be subject to 12-foot pendulums) and spent an hour leading the 5.7 pitch between One Tree Ledge and Two Tree Ledge, I ended up leading the remaining pitches so we'd top out before dark. Luckily there were no parties behind us. Well, we topped out before dark, but it took partner 2 hours to descend from the top to Snow Creek, and we took, as far as I can tell, a nearly optimal descent route. At least there was a full moon and I could see my moon shadow. No snow on route, though some on the approach and descent. It's raining ticks over there. Brushed off many of them over the course of the day and picked six more off of me when I got home (most of them in my hair). Quote
slothrop Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 [Crocodile Hunter]That's right, Gary! Outer Space is home to one of the largest populations of wild chickenheads in the state![/Crocodile Hunter] Too bad about your partner... Quote

genepires Posted April 4, 2004 Posted April 4, 2004 man. those ticks are insane! we were out there wednesday and had a tick fest also. I don't remember there being that many ticks around in may. Anybody have a guess as to how long the tick season lasts? Quote
