JGowans Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 (edited) I'm heading out to Twisp this weekend and would like to take in some back-country freshies. I see that Silverstar looks like a good climb but with considerable avy danger. Is there anything else out there that you would recommend? Anyone going to be out that way this weekend? Btw, what's the Looploop ski area like? cheers. Edited February 27, 2004 by JGowans Quote
JoshK Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 Silverstar is a great mountain. I've never climbed it from that side (just from silver star creek), but it's a very cool vantage. Are you looking for something where you absolutely won't have to worry about snow evaluation at all? It is perfectly possibly you'll find a snowpack you are comfortable with upon evaluation at silver star, but if you are looking for something where you dont even have to make a call, I understand. j_b Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 i don't think the road is opened beyond early winters which would not leave much readily accessible in this drainage (goat peak, sandy butte). Quote
JGowans Posted February 27, 2004 Author Posted February 27, 2004 thanks for the feedback fellas. given that i'll most likely be either with novices or worse by myself, i'd rather steer well clear of any sketchy decisions. Quote
jeffh Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 The Loup is better than you would expect. Spent six years in the Methow Valley in late eighties and skied there a lot. Only about 1000 vertical but it was never crowded. Very friendly people as I remember. Quote
