Alpinfox Posted February 25, 2004 Share Posted February 25, 2004 Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) is produced by liver cells and converts alcohol to acetylaldehyde (toxic) which is converted to acetic acid (vinegar) by acetaldehyde dehydrogenase, etc, etc...  Interestingly, there is a mushroom that produces an inhibitor of ADH, so if you eat that mushroom (Alcohol inky) and drink a beer, you will get very hammered.   http://chemcases.com/alcohol/alc-06.htm  Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
