Dru Posted October 27, 2003 Posted October 27, 2003 Is Indiana actually part of the Southeast? It'sd SE of here anyways news story about boulders Quote
catbirdseat Posted October 27, 2003 Posted October 27, 2003 People are idiots to even consider that a tornado might have deposited those boulders. Obviously, it was done by UFOs, Duh! Quote

scrambler Posted October 27, 2003 Posted October 27, 2003 Sounds like a problem for some of the engineering types out there. "A helium balloon experiences an upward force that is equal to the weight of the air it displaces (the buoyant force on the balloon) minus its own weight. At sea level, air weighs about 0.078 pounds per cubic foot, so the upward buoyant force on a cubic foot of helium is about 0.078 pounds. A cubic foot of helium weighs only about 0.011 pounds. The difference between the upward buoyant force on the cubic foot of helium and the weight of the helium is the amount of extra weight that the helium can lift, which is about 0.067 pounds per cubic foot." How Things Work: Balloons At sea level, it would take about 6000 cubic feet of helium to lift a 400 lb boulder. Seems feasible with a balloon. Hover above the tree by anchoring, then lower the stone carefully and also use guide ropes by people on the ground to maneuver the stone into its cradle. Reminds me of the crop circles hoax that a couple of ingenious guys pulled. Quote
Dru Posted October 27, 2003 Author Posted October 27, 2003 I think the tree started growing and lifted the rock up there Or a posse of trained squiirels lifted it up there Quote

Also, considered trundling but that would leave a mark on the tree bark. Or a posse of trained squiirels lifted it up there Or maybe it was their version of Bigfoot or some other freak of nature shown here at this site? freaks of nature Quote
