I made the decision about 5 years ago: No more third world airlines. Never had worried about it much in past years, even though I had a harrowing experience aboard an Air India 20+ years ago.

I always liked that poem as a kid. Used to stay up light at night when the TV stations went off the air to listen to it and watch the jet wingover at the end of it. Then,... kshhhhhhhhh

I remember it too. The jet was a Lockeed F-104.

Many years later they updated it with an F-16 Fighting Falcon.
